The Appenzeller Sennenhund is one of the tri-color Swiss herding dog breeds, the others being the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, the Bernese, and the Entlebucher. Appenzellers have innate working abilities. They serve as both herding dog and guard dog. They are a cattle-drover in their native Switzerland.
The Appenzeller is of medium size, smaller than the Bernese and slightly larger than the Entlebucher. Males typically weigh 60-75 pounds and females 50-65 pounds. The dogs have a lively curious expression, and a pleasing sturdy build.
