Hip problems are not common in this breed but testing can help keep it that way.

Brandy and Coulomb have Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Excellent Hips and OFA Normal elbows. Gunther and Spirit were the fourth and fifth Appenzellers ever to receive hip clearances from OFA.
